Concordia-TU Delft Indoor Tournament 2017

Concordia celebrates Valentine’s day. How? By ensuring many of Delft’s boyfriends/husbands were having a cozy time indoors, not with their SOs, but with among themselves. Such was the show of strength from the familiar and novel cricketing enthusiasts that club Sec. Jan Willem supposedly had a fleeting thought of borrowing Shastri’s cowboy hat for the opening address. The day starred a glittering cast of Biryani Boys, Avengers, MSD, Mini Van, Mauka Mauka among others.

The first round proved to have a rich mix of naughty running between the wickets, Kamran Akmal inspired drop catches, gentle swearing, but all in high spirits. Despite their differences, all teams collectively and unanimously agreed on one thing: that the first round was not a reflection on Pappu's performance, which was excitedly announced by our world class commentary team. The excited WAGS contingent witnessed their SOs orchestrating a series of incoherent, possibly age inappropriate yet determined movement of limbs.

As the rounds progressed, teams were as much interested in qualifying for the play-offs, as they were for lunch. Probably a bit more towards the latter. The break also provided the team of a post-doc, a doc and a nutcase to, with an alacrity unusual for the time of day, unveil their advanced multitasking skills- addition/subtraction on one hand and broccoli 65/flapjacks on the other.

As the knock-outs gained steam, teams were looking for openings they could use against the opponents. One such happened to be in Dhakkad boy’s captain’s head, a skin-breaching contact with the bat that his mate held so fondly. A hospital visit and an hour later he got the news that his team had played the semi-final without him and lost. But justice was restored when the team that beat them lost in the finals.

While the finals featured Annadan and Biryani, it turned out to be an unusually gripping and competitive, yet one-sided, gentle clobbering. It was as though Biriyani’s #3 was the Dravid, #4 was the Laxman, and Annadan was Australia. We all know what happens when they get together in the 2nd innings. But in the end, Cricket is the winner! Take that Biryani Boys :P

The coveted best bowler award went to Vidhvat. The best batsman went to Sricharan, who on that day was also a fielder able to leap tall buildings, penetrate walls, understand women and still come up with the catch- hence was also the best fielder. Lots of folks went back with powerful memories of the day. Not entirely related to that matches. Food may have played a role. Hard to tell.
